Tincture Press
Has anyone out there ever used a homemade tincture press, or made one? I think there's a permanent cramp in my hand...

Re: Tincture Press
Hi Minimom,
Here's the 2 sites I was loooking at for presses. I got the one on Mathres Press.
I got the deluxe one that has the additional cylinder and press bags.
I love it. Saves time and my arm. For what I'm doing for me, family and freinds it is enough. If I started a business where I was making really large quantities I'd get one bigger like at herb school. One thing though. the screw comes oiled with a grease of some sort as it needs to smoothing spiral down. I washed the bottom 2 inches of the scew (the part that will touch the liquid in the container) and also wiped with Alcohol jsut incase.and left the top untouched. Didn't want grease in my tincture. It's great how much comes out especially from roots. Be sure to read the instructions carefully as you can bend the screw if you aren't paying a ttention to what you are pressing. you'll understand when you rad it.
Good luck

I need one too, I get blisters and it's hard on my wrist. I'm lookin to get one - about the same size as Inti's some time in the future. I'd rather make it though if I could, haven't tried yet.
Re: Tincture Press
It looks pretty easy to make. You can borrow mine to use and see if you can make it.

Re: Tincture Press
Thanks for the website information. I had seen Mathres site, but not Midwest. It's good to have your recommendation. The micro press on Midwest says "leafy herbs", so I don't know if that means it's not to be used for roots. Here's the link to instructions on making your own press: http://www.homehealthresource.net/apothecary/press.html
All the materials for Method 1 are easy to find except the canister, and you could order one from Mathres. It would probably fit, but they don't give the dimensions on the website. So...I haven't decided whether to order or to make one.

Re: Tincture Press
I decided to get the Mathres press, and I do really like it. Think I'm getting around 30% increase in yield.

Re: Tincture Press
I haven't seen the press you all are talking about, but I bought the Horizon Herbs tincture press and it is amazing. Yes, it's an investment, but I am going to be making medicine for the rest of my life, and my wrists were VERY unhappy with hand twisting and squeezing.

Re: Tincture Press
Welcome to the board Susan,
I checked out the press. Wow. That looks like the Mac Daddy of presses. Mine was from the link above in my note. probably a bit more cleanup and juggling of stuff then yours bt I can't aford the Horizon one just yet. Definitly will keep it as an option for the future.
